Prof. Shuji Nakamura (2014 Nobel Laureate) Delivered a Talk at HKUST
On January 16, 2019, Prof. Shuji Nakamura, the 2014 Nobel Laureate in Physics, delivered a distinguished talk at HKUST on high-brightness blue LEDs and blue laser diodes, and their role in the future of solid-state lighting.
Prof. Nakamura walked through the history of blue LED invention, the key scientific challenges that had to be overcome, and the continuing impact of GaN-based devices on energy-efficient illumination and photonic systems worldwide. The talk was followed by a lively Q&A with HKUST faculty and students.
